Snow made a brief appearance today reminding us of where we are and what is ahead. Everyone is busy getting all their outdoor things wrapped up before winter time. It has been getting down in the 20’s at night, 40’s in the day. King crab season starts on October 15. Safe travel to the crabbers! <><

Wow, the fall colors are just bursting everywhere! Oranges, yellows, golds and reds, so pretty, yet they go so fast. Absolutely perfect day outside today. Gorgeous views of the Spur, Mt. Redoubt, and Mt. Iliamna over the Cook Inlet. Bald eagles soaring with every look up towards the clear blue sky. The Kenai Peninsula is by far one of the most beautiful places on earth. The perfect place to visit that keeps calling you back, guaranteed!

There are still fish biting on the Kenai River, one guest of ours from Wisconsin who is here has been fly fishing everyday for over a week is still catching a lot of Rainbows and Dolly Varden. It has been raining off and on for the past few weeks, more on then off, so I must give a ‘hats off’ to our guest for his resilient drive to stay out there everyday. A die hard fisherman, for sure. He told me that he saw a black bear the other day and has had the whole river where he fished, near Centennial Park, to himself. Gotta love it! ~ Viv

My group of New Zealanders just left.  Very nice people and I love their accent.  They asked for a pot.  Now I know they are in the 2 bedroom suite with a complete kitchen so I think they haven’t opened the cupboard.  But that’s not it, they need a pot for tea, a teapot.  One afternoon I asked them when they were going sightseeing and they said “Well, it’s teatime mate, after that”.  Love it.

They used the “barby” one night.  Just when I was finally not having to say “I’m not sure I caught that” (couldn’t understand their accent occasionally) they were gone.  But they come back every other year so I will see them again in 2010.  And they promised me a wonderful vacation if I came to New Zealand.    Kathy

We have a motel in Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula between Kenai and Soldotna. I’m new to blogging and still don’t understand it so please be patient. We wanted a blog linked from our website for guests comments, fun things that happen at the motel and fishing news. Alicia’s Eagle Rock Lodge is in the fishing capital of the world.

You will hear from Kathy, that’s me, I manage the motel and smile at the guests making sure their stay is a good experience. Devron is the owner and he has the fishing information. He has lived here 20 years and loves fishing, hunting and ATV’s.

Also you will hear from Viv, she is the winter manager, while Kathy is away in the lower 48 for the winter.
